Purpose of role
This junior role is a chance for someone with little or no mainframe exposure to build a firm foundation for a career as a mainframe specialist. In the first 12 months of the role, there will be a mix of intensive classroom based training combined with on the job learning in the Managed Services team. The Mainframer in Training/Junior Consultant will be set project work (to use the newly acquired skills, both technical and soft) to build their experience, and will be guided by senior team members and other mentors.
In year two of the role: the MIT/Junior Consultant will start to utilise the technical skills and build on the foundations learnt in the first year, gaining a deeper knowledge of the key mainframe disciplines; and the training roadmap for this role will further concentrate on building skill sets specialising in System Programming, and CICS & MQ.
From time to time you may be asked to work with projects in the Professional Services team, and will allocated a mentor who specialises in one of the disciplines above.
Working within the Managed Service delivery team to deliver the Managed Services to the agreed scope and within the SLA
Work directly with customers and manage expectations
Support the Technical Team Manager producing monthly reports
Resolution and prevention of problems thus ensuring systems are operational according to service level agreements with a high degree of integrity and reliability
Determining, developing and delivering procedures to protect client environments from unplanned outages
System Administration and New Projects
Create and keep up to date the documentation suite for internal and client services
Customer meetings - on client site and telephony
